James' passion to be in a band began in a cluttered garage in Wellesbourne when school friend Chris showed him those 4 magic notes of "Smells Like Teen Spirit"; from that moment, he was hooked! After playing with various friends in some more 'experimental' teen covers bands he joined Alcester band Chork, who combined covers and original material, including a collaboration with the Alcester String and Voice Orchestra. He later co-founded Coercion, who gigged regularly, and built up quite a local following. They were approached by Virgin to play some of their Megastores, but unfortunately this was after the band had split up! After some 10 years, a chance encounter with KTO on New Year's Eve 2007 led to James picking up his bass again and filling the vacancy created when Ed Rawlings (yet another old school friend) left us to concentrate on parenthood.
